SAFETY AND SPORTSMANSHIP
• NO SLAMMING, NO FINGER BENDING, NO CAN OPENERS. Don’t be a jerk. If you’re not sure, ASK.
• Be a good sport. If you’re angry or out of control, you will be asked to leave.
• Learn technique instead of just relying on brute strength. You will get better faster.
• Respect your instructors and training partners.
Do your best to protect each other from injuries.
• Training is not a competition. It’s a lab for improving and testing new things. If you are interested in competing, talk to one of your coaches about upcoming tournaments.
CLEANLINESS
• Always wear shoes off the mat, especially in the restroom.
• Shirt or rash guard must be worn under your gi jacket during training. Shorts must be worn over spats.
• Wash your training clothes (gi or nogi) after EVERY class, including your belt. Failure to do so makes you smell bad and spreads skin infections.
• Shower before and after training. Failure to do so makes you smell bad and spreads skin infections. • Fingernails and toenails clipped, hands and feet always clean.
• If you are sick, stay home.
• If you have a skin rash or infection, stay home until it’s cured. Ask your doctor if you’re unsure.
• Pick up after yourself. Keep the changing rooms, restroom, and spectator area clean. • Remove all jewelry before training.
ETIQUETTE
• Arrive before the start of any scheduled class.
• If you are late for class, stand off the mats until the instructor invites you to join the class.
• Respect all of your instructors and fellow students equally.
• Listen carefully and quietly to all instructions on and off the mats.
• Be aware of mat space when rolling. Lower belts are expected to move out of the way of upper belts, and you should never make contact with the people rolling next to you.
• If you are injured, stop what you are doing and immediately tell the instructor.
• Make sure your dues are paid. If you have questions or issues with your membership or billing, speak with staff before or after class.
• Be respectful to new visitors and keep language and conversations appropriate.
• Parents, please refrain from coaching your child.
